What inspired you?

We don’t have a real nursery. Living in a small one bedroom apartment, we set Cora’s nursery in the open living area. We wanted the nursery to blend in nicely with the space, so our beach themed living room is the main inspiration for our little girl’s nursery.

My husband and I both love the beach and we knew we’re having a girl, so we put details in her beach nursery to make it somehow girly (but not too); like combining the light blue with lilac, and using sea shells and animals instead of ships/nautical items for decorations.

Great Tip:

Sharing a living area with a nursery without wanting them to invade one another, we had to choose furniture that we know both areas can use. Like the open shelves we use as a room divider. On one side it stores our books, and on the other it’s a library and toy shelf for Cora. We also utilize a lot of baskets. They go under the shelves neatly, storing almost all of Cora’s toys, easily and quickly (we also us a basket under her dresser to keep diapers and extra supplies). At the end of the day when everything is in their rightful baskets, we have our adult living room back to relax in.

Such a great solution to a situation where you don't have much of a choice but to put the nursery in a non traditional setting. Where did you get all the light colored furniture? It's gorgeous!

Nice! Our baby is in the living room also. I really like your open shelves idea.

your creamy wooden furniture is beautiful... is it from a store that ships to the states? :)

Cora is such a beautiful name, and what a perfect space you have created for her. I echo the comments above re: the furniture. Lovely and useful -- the duel-sidedness of the shelves is a perfect way to make the space work for adults and child.

Thank you for all the vote and comments. Woohoo, we're in!

We got the furniture from a local baby shop here in Amsterdam. I doubt they do shipping to the US. They are actually whitewashed wood, and not creamy. The night table used to store our PC, but we found that the diaper bin fit perfectly in it, we keep it in the nursery (the nursery used to be our working area). The big shelves are from IKEA.
