Luke's Calming & Creative Nursery
Small Kids, Big Color Entry # 45

thumbs up

Name: Kellie
Age: 8 months
Location: Bountiful, Utah

Color Inspiration: I wanted our nursery to be colorful and interesting for our little one to look at. The "old school" images were the initial inspiration and then I just built on that.

Give Kellie & Luke a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

Tip For Using Color: I've heard that calming colors for the wall are better for child brain development. Supposedly bright yellow or red walls in a nursery result in a more anxious temperment.

Colors Used: Giraffe, polka-dot fabric: purchased at Purl Soho in NYC.
Picture wall: images from flickr, Dick & Jane books and scrap albums. Frames from Ikea.
Alphabet Cards: from Hip & Humble. Rocking Chair reupholstered with fabric from Pink Chalk.
Mid-century dresser: from the classifieds
Crib: Target

So cute, and yes, calming! And what is the wall paint?

i love it. especially the art. but i'm surprised by how many people hang art above the crib. aren't you afraid your kid will try to pull them off?

Love the dresser/changer! I have one similar that I got on eBay -- luckily it was a local mid-century enthusiast and he delivered it to us for free.

The collage above his crib is really nice, too.

Great room, and that giraffe/dot fabric was an amazing find!

Probably enough room to pull the crib away from the wall when kiddo starts getting a kick out of pulling frames off the wall. My youngest thought it was hilarious trying to get the one above my bed. And he now loves walking behind my bed ;)

Cute room. I like the "wall of frames," though my son would be knocking them down onto his head at this point in the game. We have those same alphabet cards, which I love seeing displayed here. With limited wall space, I decided to just take out the letters to spell his name and framed them-- it would be nice to see them all at once like that every day!

So cute! I love the colors and the overall vintage feeling in this room. The frames over the crib are scary, though. Design is one thing, and obviously, safety is another! In our toddler's room, we have light, plastic frames hung on his walls, so there is no big risk of him being injured or something being broken.

this is a very cute room. great colors, and fabric. but i agree with the other posts about the frames above the crib. if he is 8 months old, he will soon be pulling himself up, and reaching for them. better move the crib out soon. other than that, i love everything about this space!

I love this room it's very beautiful. The crib picture makes me cringe as I live in earthquake country. I would just be worried the glass covered picture frames would fall on my baby's head.

We did the same thing with the alphabet cards. I was so tickled to see someone else had the same idea! Such a simple solution. Very cute room!

Love the ottoman, the fabrics, and the artwork above the crib -- just watch out for him pulling it down on himself soon! ;)
