apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Henry's Vintage Travel Mural
Small Kids, Big Color Entry # 16

thumbs up

Name: Henry
Age: One
Location: Norwich, Connecticut
Color Inspiration: We were inspired by vintage travel graphics and the illustrations of David Wiesner's book JUNE 29,1999 to take on the challenge of a painting a mural ourselves. We also found Apartment Therapy a great inspiration for...

Give Matt, Candice & Henry a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!
Thumbs Up Voting is only activated for 48 Hours — so don't delay!

Color Inspiration continued: ...hounding the craigslists in our area, DIY projects for rehabbing furniture, IKEA hacks, and sale resources for "modern" items we never had much interest in prior to viewing your website. Having different scenes in the room lets us change our mood by changing seats.

Tip For Using Color: Contrast and bright make us feel good. Pick what you like.

Colors Used: Benjamin Moore paint, multiple pre mixed and mixed by ourselves.

Amazing! We had sort of a vintage travel theme for my son's nursery too, but all we did was decoupage some old maps to the bureau drawers! This is incredible.

question.....where did you get that orange chair cushion from for the teak arm chair? I have a chair exactly like that, and need to replace it's cushion.

Thanks for the comments!

The rug was on sale at CB2.

Both the dresser and teak armchair are Craigslist finds from the same estate sale. Dresser is American $50, painted the case and legs white enamel and refreshed the birch veneers on the front. Danish chair (no label) was $25 and the original orange vinyl cushions were in great condition.

The Nursery Works Storytime Rocker was 50% off online. Fits the 4yr old and Henry.

The Bird and Balloon Mobiles are from Flensted.

Lamp and White Bookcase are from Ikea.

My talented wife Candice gets credit for the mural.
