Tip for Living Small with Kids: My best tip would be to give kids a voice in their space, let them express their own creativity and help create the room. Our daughter chose the slight ocean theme, which then helped us choose mobile, rugs, the cool wooden bank, and blue and yellow general colors. She helped me choose the wrapping paper to cover the drawers of her tall dresser. Including treasures from my own childhood like the handmade doll cradle and high chair also make it a very personal space.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in putting together this room? We’re rearranged this room several times as the kids have gotten older. One of the biggest challenges in this room was small objects: We needed to keep the toys in the room not too small because it’s shared by a 5 year old girl and an 18 month old toddler. The toys in here--dress up, books, toy kitchen-—are ones that they share. The other major challenge is that it's a weird space--roughly 12 x 12, but with the staircase cutting in in the middle of the room. Helpful resources include homeschool blogs, parenting blogs, the Tumbleweed Houses for great small space utilization, AT of course. Shopping spots include Ikea, Kidding Around toy store, and my parents basement!
