Smaller Cooler 2009: Paige's Pink Playspace

thumbs up

Name/Age: Paige, 3
Location: San Francisco, California
Family: Paige, her mom Jeni and her dad Kevin
Room Size: 120 square feet
Division: Kid

Tip for Living Small with Kids: Edit toys, rotate toys! We donate lots of unloved toys. We keep all Paige's favorite things as accessible(and easy to clean up) as possible, but we move the toys she gets tired of playing with to a box in the back of her closet. When the toys return to her shelves in a couple of months they're like brand new toys to her!

Give Paige, Jeni and Kevin a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in putting together this room? Our biggest challenges were common ones: space and budget. In terms of the limited square footage of our house, we wanted to give Paige as much playspace in her room as possible. We kept storage containers in a shelving system that took advantage of the room's vertical space and made sure that the toddler bed had room for storage underneath. As for budget, nothing goes further than a can of paint. We made the hot pink mural the focus of the design and kept all the furnishings down to a bare bones budget. The one splurge in the room was the nurseryworks rocker we bought before we bought before Paige was born. We had it upholstered in brown microsuede so that it could be used in another room if her space outgrows it down the road.

I love, love, love the pink accent wall with the white flowers. It said girly but not too over the top cotton candy pink lipstick obnoxious girly. Combined with the toy organization, the chair and the dollhouse, I want to move in. This one is too cute!

I have the same rocker for my nursery and I love it! I bought mine through Fawn & Forest on sale for 50% off. I just checked and they're still on sale for $450. http://www.fawnandforest.com/categories/116-rocking-chairs/products

You're making the rest of us look CPS-worthy bad. Kevin is an artistic genius and Dodo, the autistic genius, will be over the moon to see these fabulous pics because she says almost daily, "me neva see Paigey's woom, when me see my fwiend Paigey's woom?" Gorgeous. As are you.

Such a great room. I love the pink and yellow together. It's very cheery and girly but in a fresh modern way, not an overly sweet or barbie-ish way. I'm sure Barbie-ish/barbie-esque is a word. So how about sharing all your sources so we can all copy you, yes? The bedding, the cute yellowy dresser with changing pad on top, the paint color...I recognize the ikea expedit bookcase because we have one in our daughter's room. Great storage! Thanks for sharing!

Rotating toys is the life and money saver a lot of parents forget. I really appreciate how organized this room is!

I really like how it is Pink, but Not Too Pink! Those colors and graphics can "grow" with your daughter for sure--leaving wiggle room to change out some of the furniture or whatever you may need as she gets older, a tweener would also adore the pink wall and huge flower motif!
