Family Life in a Mid-Century Modern House

Jim and Amy carefully mix modern pieces with vintage finds in their mid-century modern house. Located in Chevy Chase, Maryland, the house was unchanged from the 1950's when it was built until Jim and Amy moved in last year. Click through to see how they keep the mid-century modern house stylish and kid-friendly...

• Amy and Jim found a retro-looking orange high-chair for the dining room
• a BluDot rocking chair in the music room was a gift to Amy on the birth of their first child
• the Scandanavian wood dressers in the kids' rooms were Jim's childhood furniture. The dressers were purchased by Jim's parents from Scan (a DC store that has since closed) in the early 1970's.
• the storage bins and shelves in the kids' rooms are from The Container Store.

Nice house. It's hard to find that sort of mid-century house where I live--not that there weren't a lot of houses built in the 50s in our area, but they're mostly Cape Cods and ranches, not sleek houses like that. Love the Poul Henningsen-style pendant, is that orange or copper, it's hard to see on my monitor. Orange would match the Tripp Trapp chair, of course.

PS--that's a very handsome German shepherd.

I love how the dog followed the picture taker around and is in so many photos! :-)
