#10 - Hook Salvation

Name: Ramona
Children's Names and Ages: Helena, 6; Anna, 4 and Guy, 2
Location: Mexico, Missouri
Category: Entryway

Items used for the project and favorite part of the storage solution:
I used a piece of scrap 1x lumber, which I had the lumber yard plane down (it was 1/8" too thick for my door trim) and eight hooks from the local hardware store. Tools used were a speed square and circular saw for cutting the board to length and then a level and drill to install.

My favorite thing about this project is that it was a super simple way to give some order to an otherwise blah back hallway space. This hall always had coats and backpacks dumped on the floor (it opens to the garage, but the coat closet is three rooms away by the front door)... the constant mess drove me NUTS!

Best storage tip for families with children:
Make it easy for them to clean up after themselves, put storage options at their level and make sure they know what goes where. My kids actually hang their own coats up now and, more importantly, know where to find them in the morning when we're rushed and trying to get out the door!

Thanks for entering, Ramona!

I tried to vote several times too and got nowhere. I liked this project the best. Closet organization systems are nothing new but this is a great idea for that pile of coats and backpacks that ALWAYS seems to accumulate right by my front door.
