Items used for the project and favorite part of the storage solution:

We live down the street from a lovely small wine shop and they carry a lot of great wines that come in cool funky boxes that they display in store. One day I asked if I could have a Plunger Head wine box just because I liked it and then had the idea to use it as a eco-friendly way to hold items around the house.

We use two in the living area for easy pick up of random toys that have been in that area for the day. The great thing about these wine boxes is you can recycle them if they get beat up and they are free! We often choose boxes that are modern and fit with our decor. I simply take out the inserts and cut off the top lids and they are ready for the home! I buy a lot of storage baskets and such, but I truly feel better when I use my brain to think of re-purposing. I am teaching Finn and Blaise to think about recycling and using our imagination and it feels good! The wine man always smiles when he sees me coming!

What's your best storage tip for families with children?

We use a lot of vertical space! Hang wires to display art and other fun kids items. We like Cd towers for closets and shoes! Think outside the box! Use a doll house for the wall! Hang a small chair as a shelf!

Thanks for your entry, Amy!

In the last picture, what is the artwork with the stenciled letters? Did you and your children make that? I really love it.

I always say start them young. I dig the boxes and the design, just wonder how trashed they get though.

my friend that I worked with- an art teacher made that stencil canvas for a poetry lesson. I asked him for it! The boxes last for a couple months or so- then recycle and grab some more free ones :)
