#23 - Refurbished Bookcase

Items used for the project and favorite part of the storage solution:
We received a used bookcase from one of my husband's clients. It was hand-built and in good shape but an unattractive rust color with plexiglass windows on the doors. We changed out all the hardware, painted the outside grey and the interior shelves orange to match the rest of the room, then stapled a neat orange patterned fabric from reprodepot.com to the inside of the doors. It allows plenty of storage for toys and books and the fabric provides two nice, large panels of pattern instead of seeing the collection of toys and books inside. Painting it the same color as the walls allows it to recede into the space instead of overpowering it.

Storage tips for families with children:
Container store and Ikea as much as you can but realize a family isn;t completely sterile and you can't put everything in a box. You can try, but it's OK to dump that box out on the floor every once in a while.

Nice job on the re-do. Where did you find your crib?

Sarah Jo- Thanks, and it's from, of course, Ikea, and it's from the Tassa collection. We have the armoire, crib, and changing table, and LOVE them all, but during our last visit, we didn't see them at Ikea anymore. Sadly, there is no Ikea in Colorado, so we conveniently visit family in Chicago and Dallas, just so we can go there. (Don't tell them, though!)

Outstanding! You'd never know it was the same piece of furniture and it fits the room perfectly. Gotta love the little tree-rat, er, squirrel, down there in the corner, too. Miles is one lucky little guy!!

Cute! My son (9 mo.) is Miles too! So, I have to say I'm partial to the name :)

I think this is a great entry! You really transformed this piece and I am definitely going to keep this idea in mind. It's so versatile!

The room is so cute! Another mom to a Miles here (26 months), (and I'm also a Jennifer). : )
