Items used for the project and favorite part of the storage solution:
The bench is actually the Ascend Open Bookcase from Crate & Barrel. This was such a lucky find. It has a steel frame, making it the perfect sturdy bench for our long but narrow entry, and we bought the floor sample for half-price. The wall hooks were in a clearance bin at a local hardware store, total cost three dollars. The mirror was found on clearance at Home Goods for twenty-five dollars. Everything else - the baskets, shelf, dry erase calendar, stencils and pillow came from Target.

My favorite part of our entry is the bench - it has become the perfect temporary perch for people and items in transit. It also helps remind everyone that shoes should be taken off at the door.

Storage tips for families with children:
Designate one area in your home as a Pit Stop. Keeping storage baskets kid accessible helps to hide clutter and reinforces that everything has a place, even if they can't put it away as neatly as you do.

Love the guys on top of the mirror. What / who exactly are they?

Thanks. The box says "Wooden Stacking Robots", made by Schylling. They were recently given to my four year old as a birthday gift from a very dear friend of his.

He asked to keep them on the mirror when he's not playing with them because, "they make me happy and I want everyone to see how awesome they are."

I totally agree. They are awesome and they make me happy too. What a smart kid to put them up there. Thanks for the info.

The diaper bag is Amy Coe for Target. I love it. I've had it several years, and it still looks new even after all the abuse it's received. The blue and green polka dot bag was handmade by a friend.
