Survey: Keeping Track of It All

survey-keepingtrackoftime.jpgFor many parents who work outside -- as well as inside -- the home it may be a bit difficult keeping track of all that needs to be done every day. How is it possible that we can manage to multi-task and still keep our sanity (more or less)? There are meals to be made, children that need to be picked up from activity, laundry to be done, diapers that need a-changin' and so much more. How do we manage to keep our days, and ourselves, going?

we always do things at the last minute, because we don't track things... my husband, aka Clark Kent, is master of the last-minute save. I think he thrives on it, to tell you the truth (he sky-dives, and travels to difficult places too), so I think he just likes challenges and is an adrenalin junkie. At least, it makes life exciting...

Google calendar helps a lot, especially with email reminders.

Work things go in a Franklin-Covey planner that fits in my purse and never leaves my side. Home things for all four of us go on a MomAgenda weekly calendar that hangs on the fridge, which my husband is supposed to consult daily. I find that biggest help is planning out my dinner menu a week in advance. Even if I forget about swimming lessons or something else comes up at the last minute, at least I know there's food in the house and a plan for dinner...

Not that it always works. Just last week I gave my son a big lecture about remembering things and then realized I had forgotten all about my daughter's tumbling class that morning. Ooops!!! Nothing like doubling your mommy guilt!

I LIVE by my iCal (on my macbook). I print it out on 5x8 index cards held together with a tiny silver binder clip. They fit perfectly in my pink Clava Junior Padfolio. When I make an appointment, I write it on my index card calendar, then enter it into iCal when I get home. Then, I print new index cards every few weeks. I also use ALL of the features of iCal... notes, location, email invites, reminders, etc. I LOVE it.
It took a while, but it's awesome to have found a system that works perfectly for me. Otherwise, I would never know what's going on!!

iCal synced between me & my husband's laptops is the life saver is this family. If you've got a Mac and aren't using iCal, then you are in for a real treat. I recommend starting today!
