Otto Table & Chairs

2008-02-15-otto table.jpg

Many of us don’t have the room (or inclination) to buy child-size furniture, but if you do we’d like to point out the Otto table and chair set which isn’t a bit childish – in fact, we’d rather like an adult version of it.

Not only is it super attractive, two sliding trays provide storage for art supplies or small toys and the chairs tuck right in under the table so the overall footprint (31"L x 19.5"W) is manageable.

It’s available in either a mocha or natural color wood with trays in an optional vibrant orange. Available from Modern Tots for $450 (shipping in early March).

You know what I really like about this? It's expensive and will not last long. Your kids will outgrow it very fast. And then what? We add it to the landfill? Isn't it time that all high-end designers create their products with this in mind?

I hear you JoeBelt, but isnt' that the case for almost all kids' things including cribs, strollers, rocking horses, etc.? There isn't much they don't outgrow, but hopefully those items will be re-sold and re-used by someone else's children (and I can buy them on Craigslist for 1/2 price).

Oh, my. By the time I could afford that and had a cool enough house, my kids will have outgrown it. But I do love it!

CMcB ,

That's where designers need to pull together and start thinking in those terms. Cribs are being designed so they can convert into beds. More items need to be planned in that way.
