When we first saw this product on its own it sort of looked like an adult toy, but it's meant to rock your baby's world, not yours. The product and website are German so we can't provide all the details, but the concept is fascinating. The small device attaches to your stroller or crib and somehow rocks it side to side. The only English description we could find says it "noiselessly rocks the pram with sideways movements" which we presume to mean it vibrates.
We know many sleep experts discourage using motion to put and keep babies asleep, but in our experience motion was one of the only strategies for putting our baby to sleep and he outgrew the need after a few months.
We saw the Lolaloo on Kids Modern and have been perusing the official website which has several videos of the Lolaloo in action. Below is a video of it attached to a crib (there also seem to be special bottoms you add to the crib legs):
What do you think - genius? silly?
Noiselessly? I don't think so. And I think this thing is a gimmick.

The item is certainly not a gimmick, but it is expensive and very useful. You can read about it on the Lolaloo website: https://www.lolaloo.com/kaufen/index.html It'd cost you about US$175.00. There are also places you can rent them in Germany for about US$20/month. They sell other items on their website, too. They are highly recommended amongst German reviewers who seem to swear by them (see the Berlin Design Blog). As for a description of the device, you can see videos on their website http://www.lolaloo.com

Or for about $30 you can get this: http://www.amazon.com/First-Years-Gentle-Vibrations-Soother/dp/B000CRFOWK
My husband and I were given one as a gift for our newborn son. I thought it was crazy, but during some difficult nights I swear the vibration feature helped my son sleep. This one is also sound activated, so if your kid wakes up and cries it will play music or vibrate for a few minutes to get them back to sleep. (And the only sound I could hear from it was a very low, soothing hummmmm...).
I'm definitely not saying this should replace an attentive parent...and I certainly know that the key to sleep training is getting your child to learn how to put themselves back to sleep. However, in a pinch this sure beats driving a crying baby around in the car in the middle of the night to get them to sleep!! :-)

eek, $175.
If more affordable, I would have used one for sure -- we used a pram (basinette on wheels) when baby was about 0-5 months, and I remember trying to sit down to eat and having to jiggle the pram with my foot all the time to try and keep baby quiet. Then the worst was coming home from a walk when baby finally fell asleep, but woke up if I stopped moving...this would have helped.

seriously? my suggestion is either where your child and rock them to sleep (highly suggest the Moby wrap), or use your arm or foot to rock them in something. aren't there articles out there saying that children shouldn't be in their car seats or strollers for any great length of time anyhow? seems awfully silly to me.
