Top Ten: Bouncers

2007-04-01-svan.jpg

Before babies can sit confidently on their own, they need a secure place to perch. Baby bouncers or loungers serve that purpose well and can be a real lifesaver when you need both hands to wash the dishes or to fold the laundry.

Here is our top ten list of bouncers:

  • Svan bouncer, $119.95.

  • Oeuf lounger, $97 (quilted lounger is $104).

  • Baby Bjorn bouncer, $99.25.

  • Hoohobbers Rocking Infant Seat, $59.99.

  • Maclaren Kate Spade rocker, $113.

  • Bloom Coco Plexi rocker, $300.

  • Combi Activity Rocker, $79.99.

  • Graco Travel Lite Bouncer, $59.99.

  • Graco Laura Ashley Folding Bouncer, $59.99.

  • Kettler rocker/bouncer, $29.99.
  • What did we miss? Do you have a favorite to add to the list?

We received both the Oeuf and the Svan as gifts and like the Oeuf much better: it is lighter, it can be lifted and carried around easily (the Svan comes apart when you lift it unless you know what you're doing and have two free hands), and it actually bounces. The Svan barely moves, although it has the advantage of a much higher weight capacity (30lbs?) while the Oeuf supposedly only holds 18lbs. You can get a the pink/brown Oeuf at Babycenter.com right now for about $70.

I received the Svan as a gift (the same orange/brown one as in the photo) and I love the looks of it, but my newborn wasn't heavy enough to bounce in it himself. A friend left me borrow her Bjorn seat and it has been a lifesaver. It bounces so smoothly with the slightest touch, and now my 4 month old can easily bounce himself in it. Will definitely go back to the Svan now that he's bigger and heavier, but if I had to choose only one, I'd do the Bjorn. A bonus of both of them - they make no noise, play no annoying lightshow or song and don't require batteries!

Unfortunately, the babygeared.com has serious customer service issues. Currently, babygeared.com has an unsatisfactory record with the Atlanta BBB. Consumers probably want to consider this prior to shopping with Babygeared.com. They will take your order, and your money, but you will never receive your merchandise. :-)

We are researching these issues with the BBB, as the information reported in these claims is inaccurate.

We were very disheartened to see that just anyone can slander a person or business on the internet leaving no recourse and that such activity can tarnish what has been a good reputation for 7 years with thousands of satisfied customers.
