If you can draw your eyes away from the adorable baby for a moment, you'll notice a very clever modification of a baby gym. Cherie writes: Early in the year you posted a story on the new Ikea Leka wooden baby gym. I went straight out to Ikea to buy one - it was exactly what I had been searching for! I thought you might like to see what I did with it...with the help of some red popsticks and string, I can change bub's toys so that she never gets bored!
The first few times you put your baby under a play gym (provided they don't cry hysterically which is sometimes the case) they're fascinated and will gladly gaze at the hanging toys and soon they'll become curious and begin to poke, prod and pull at them with great dedication. But that fascination eventually wears off which is why we love Cherie's modification since she can change the hanging toys whenever her daughter Edie seems jaded by them.
Clearly Edie thinks this is a winning idea and so do we - thanks for sharing Cherie!

I love this. It is such an attractive alternative to the plastic drek on the market. And it is so much less expensive than the classic European versions.
The modification is nice too.

Cute diaper. What is she wearing?

I'm pretty sure the dipe is a bumgenius. My kiddo wears then to. This is the kind of diy project I can appreciate: simple, practical, & cheap!

I meant "them, too." Apparently I am still smarter than the self-correcting iPhone.

Thanks. Nice to see them in action. We are looking at cloth for #2.

not to be an 'alarmist' but it seems having a loop of string hanging down could be dangerous. not that i don't suspect that the baby is always monitored, just something to consider as she grows.

I'm with Enamorada about the loops issue--- also the sticks look loose. Probably OK til the baby starts pushing up on hands and knees.

The loop around that donut is the first thing I noticed too. She could easily get her head caught in it.
By the way, I am so not an alarmist
