An Apartment of Their Own

And for those who have everything, Velocity Art and Design of Seattle offers modern housing for young hipsters.

Playshed is a modern prefab space designed by Ryan Grey Smith, an architect and parent, in collaboration with Velocity.

Its classic mid-century lines comes with a four-figure price tag, but it is the closest many of us will get to owning a mid-c space of our own (don’t forget that it’s really for the little ones).

It provides kids with a separate play area that is all their own (in lieu of a fort or treehouse) and introduces them to modern architecture.

But we think its true appeal is to parents who get to assemble and customize it. Special wall panels, flooring and even decking is available to give it a bespoke look.

Imagine the fun you can have decorating and furnishing it! The possibilities are endless.

The shed is made of exterior grade plywood, fir, prefinished birch, plexiglass and all-weather PVCA and approximately 4 x 8 feet, and is available here.

It reminds us of a more compact version of the prefab shed offered by ReadyMade Magazine intended for adults.
