Charley Harper Collection at Old Navy

2008-12-09-harper.jpg

Frankly, we had forgotten that Todd Oldham was named Creative Director of Old Navy last year. But when we saw this terrific line of Charley Harper children's goods from Old Navy and remembered Todd's book about Harper, it all made sense. Beautiful, affordable sense.

We're excited and impressed that a behemoth chain store like this would license the work of an iconic, slightly off-beat artist like Harper and we're sure we have Mr. Oldham to thank. Harper's work is perfect for kids - mainly nature themed, colorful and using simple lines ("minimal realism" as he called it) that young eyes can engage and appreciate. Best of all, this collection is affordable with each item coming in under $15.

i learned about these after greg @ daddytypes posted about their t-shirts. when i went to look at them at the old navy in downtown san francisco, they didn't have the shirts but they did have all of the items posted above with the exception of the memory game. this was probably about three weeks ago - i haven't been back recently to check on the stock.

Anyone know if they have this stuff in Canada? I've seen this posted on a few sites, and I keep forgetting to call Old Navy to find out.

They had a big display at my Old Navy in Calgary, so they definitely are in Canada!

kittycatalina: I saw the collection in Brooklyn. Not sure if anything is left, but they had the whole collection at the Atlantic Center Old Navy.

I love Charley Harper--I have a couple of his signed seriographs for my daughter's nursery. When Old Navy had a 30% off sale last month I got the board books, some T-shirts in varying sizes (for when she grows) and the peg puzzle. She loves the board books and she's only two months old. I read them to her and she stares at the pictures. For a baby her age, that's a rave. ;)

Everything is on sale online right now. I think all the T's are $10 and I think the most expensive items are $14.50.

Thanks for the Brooklyn info HPez! That's not too far from me so I'll be heading over soon to see what's left.

I'm new here (been lurking here and there)--had to comment because I love Harper's stuff. Definately at Atlantic Center, Bklyn, but I just went two days ago, and not much was left, though. There's just this itty bitty rack dedicated to.
