Fern Animals by Ashley Anna Brown

2008-05-fern.jpg

Fern Animals is one of those shops you have to stalk a bit because they sell out so quickly. There's something almost magical and other-worldly about these animals though, as if they stepped out of a fantastical children's book ala The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Fern Animals are the creation of Ashley Anna Brown who mostly uses vintage or second-hand fabrics in combination with an organic cotton filling. They are small, under 5" and sell for around $44 which may seem like a lot, but they are handmade and might make for a better collectible than toy.

As we mentioned, Ashley sells these faster than she can make them. You can see a gallery of sold animals at FernAnimals.com. There just happens to be a Fern Animals shop update today at 4 so maybe you'll get lucky. Otherwise, we'd recommend subscribing to Ashley's blog where she always lets readers know when new Fern Animals are being released into the wild.

Well, Lizzykewl, she's sold several hundred of them and they are much coveted so I guess a lot of people don't mind a "handmade look."
