Foam and Fabric Play Garden

Mary, Mary, quite contrary how does your garden grow? Well if you're at LiEr's house, it grows beautifully with hand-crafted flowers, fruits and vegetables! A diy project titled "foam dirt" might not initially pique your interest, but LiEr has taken the idea to great heights.

She was inspired by a similar play dirt bed her daughters enjoyed at a local museum and not only figured how how to make it out of foam and fabric, but she made adorable flowers, strawberries and peas for harvesting. She even made stems with velcro attachments so the berries and peas can be "picked" and re-attached.

Besides what she's made herself she's also added inexpensive plastic carrots and fabric flowers from a craft store, so if you think you only have the time to make the "dirt" you could always stock your garden with store-bought artificial flowers and veggies.

Love it, but have no idea how to get started? LiEr provides excellent and thorough instructions, photos and patterns on her wonderful blog Ikat Bag:

Dang! Wow! I can see how my son would love digging in the "dirt" for some plastic bugs and worms, too...
