Gabby's Pink Play Kitchen

2009-04-gabbys kitchen.jpg

Hungry for pie? So are we after catching a glimpse of the hot cherry (rhubarb? strawberry?) pie Gabby is baking up in the play kitchen her parents made for her.

Gabby's mom, Michelle, describes the process and the components used: We used an old shelf we bought at an estate sale for the main body of the kitchen. The curtain is made from a Gap dress with a hole in it (found at the thrift store) We added a divider to the shelf and put the curtain on one side and the oven door on the other. The handle to the oven is from a non-working vintage mangle iron we had in the basement.

My husband cut the burners with a jigsaw and the knobs are old dresser knobs, painted by me. We bought an inexpensive faucet and used a mixing bowl for the sink. The dollar store baskets on the bottom shelf hold all my daughter's little kitchen pans, measuring cups, pretend food, etc. Her toy mixer and other items hide behind the curtain. We painted the entire thing to match her room...there's even a little pie baking in the oven! I think it turned out pretty cute!

So do we, Michelle, and bonus points for putting it on casters!
