Lots of parents are looking for a dollhouse this holiday season - something modern, gender-neutral and built to last. If money is no issue, we've found the perfect specimen - the Doll Villa by Dutch designer Liliane Limpens. We are loving the plywood and stainless steel details, and there are lots of details. Jump below for more pics (be forewarned that the next pic is X-rated!)

I don't know. I've been thinking about dollhouses since you've been including modern dollhouses in this section. I remember the dollhouse I had as a child, which I loved. It was a weird mash of Victoriana/Edwardian/all-American faux-Colonial I can only describe as "Disney movie period." My best friend had two very elaborate dollhouses, a frilly Victorian number with a working dumbwaiter and a Little House on the Prairie style general store. What I loved were the details, the bells and whistles, the tiny balls of yarn, the fake pies I made from bottlecaps and salt dough, the little books. I had no interest at all in the type of modern dollhouses that were generally to be found in schools and doctors' offices. These seemed to me dull and utilitarian, the sort of thing bought because most children would break nice things (yes, I was a snobby little girl, but I was not the only one). When I see these dollhouses, all straight lines and empty space, I just think it's the parents, not the children, who love the austerity.
