My 3 year old son is sitting with me right now and he got really excited about that laptop! Birthday present idea...thanks :)

While I know kids don't see it this way, things like this depress the hell out of me. It feels like we're indoctrinating them into how fun a boring desk job is going to be someday.

"See? Now you can be underpaid and completely expendable, just like Daddy!"

Yeah, the cynic in me finds this depressing too. Certainly not all office jobs are soul-crushing, but still...

Cute! It strikes me that this could be a good DIY project, though it is much easier to buy it as a kit.

i remember playing "money" with bank deposit slips. I feel that stuff like this inhibits creativity. Let kids find items in their own environment to use as these props.

There is nothing funnier than listening to kids play creatively with stuff like this (even if it is DIY like chumsabilly described above). We used to play "office" with an old manual typewriter, steno books, and one of those message pads witht the carbon paper. My mom kept the message pad because the things we wrote were hilarious.

My 2 year old son got this for his birthday. Obviously some of you have forgotten that to kids, an empty toilet paper roll is a toy. They don't realize that "The Man" is keeping their parents down and making them work at a job they don't enjoy. They want to play with the fake cell phone! He has had a blast with this kit. He brings over his "I'm the Boss" mug and asks me for coffee. Is this because he knows that is what he is supposed to do with the cup from seeing an office setting? No! He sees me drink coffee from a mug. Since kids like to be like their parents, maybe we should try to remember that they pick up on our moods and cues and encourage play that is positive. They don't have to use this toy and it be a boring desk job, they could be the president of the United States, or work for Greenpeace or write for a tv show, most of which require some sort of the objects found in the kit. I like this toy. It has a plastic donut for goodness sakes!
