There's something so pure, simple and beautiful about these wooden animal forms. They make us want to get down on the floor and set up a rural habitat for them to live in. Or line them up on a shelf to say goodnight to before bed. Or run our hands over their smooth, polished surfaces to calm ourselves when we're stressed out.

And, we think your kids might like them, too. We found them at Romp, known for keeping an eye out for special gifts. The animals - fox (lg. & sm.), elephant, dog (lg. & sm.) and sheep - are made by hand of pear, walnut, and beech woods. They are left unfinished to highlight the natural woodgrain and then finished with beeswax.
Romp closed its Brooklyn doors a while ago, but still offers its treasures online. You can find these creatures ($20-32) at Romp online.
These remind me of the million dollar deadheads I went to undergrad with. Sometimes it costs a lot to live simply.
