Vintage Vespa Upcycled Into Rocking Toy

2010-01-vesparocker.jpg

Your eyes do not deceive you. This really is as incredible as it appears at first glance. Upcycled doesn't do it justice - more like awesomecycled. Sure it's over the top and ginormous for a kids' toy, but we really love that someone not only had the idea, but saw it through.

We spied this over at Wee Baby Stuff (click through and they'll send you to more photos). It was apparently made as a gift for young Diego (complete with custom license plate) by his grandfather whose Vespa riding days are over. Bravo!

I seriously need me one of those. The kid can have the couch; I'll sit on that all day!

This kid is certainly the envy of the neighborhood. What an imaginative, fantastic idea!

ha ha ha there has to be someone to rain on the parade...

i think that's awesome!

It's very cool, but it's not made from an actual vespa. The scale is wrong--far too small. The shape is wrong on several pieces including the front fender, the engine cowling, and the lack of trim on the front shield. Most importantly, the site mentions the fiberglass body. Vespas always have had steel monocoque bodies. They're the only manufacturer to still use this method instead of plastic panels bolted onto steel tube frames.

I absolutely love this idea! I don't really care whether or not it came from a real vespa, it is too cute to matter. I had to put this on my own blog. I definitely want one of these in my son's room. Too bad it's one of a kind - I'm pretty sure these would be a hot seller.

Kathygnome beat me to it. As someone who has owned several vintage scoots and motorcycles, it's not the real deal. BUT that doesn't make it any less cool or wonderful. I'd certainly be thrilled to have it in our collection of toys for our little ones!
