Wooden Play Food by Erzi

For the budding foodie who demands exacting verisimilitude from his or her toy food, we recommend this gorgeous selection of wooden play food. They're not just toys: they're art. (Not that this should really matter when choosing children's toys, but we'd actually put a few of these in a bowl and use them as a tongue-in-cheek centerpiece.) And yes, that avocado does come with a pit.

Made by German toymaker Erzi, these foodstuffs are produced in an environmentally responsible way, using all-natural materials and non-toxic lacquers.

Erzi play food is very nice, but our favorite is from Nova Natural. We have the hand carved fruit set and are getting the vegetable set for Christmas. Talk about works of art! They are quite lovely and are surprisingly durable. The good thing about the Erzi play food is the variety offered.
