Get ready for those winter colds with a bed board! We are just loving this idea from Maya Made. While the little ones are resting in bed, a portable chalkboard or light piece of wood painted in chalkboard paint keeps them occupied.

The chalkboard can be just a sturdy surface to play on or a mini road for little cars. It could probably double as a tray for soup or tea. Or how about practicing writing- especially if a sore throat's involved?
Another great idea from the talented Maya.
does anyone know where to find a bed like the one shown?

I had an old iron bed growing up, and loved it. My parents bought it from an antique store before I was born, and it is still used in their house today!

This is a great idea for sick-kid entertainment, it reminds me of the poem, "The Land of Counterpane" from Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses.
That said, I always wonder when I see the ubiquitous trend of chalkboard paint especially in bedrooms, about the health effects of breathing in all the chalk dust it must generate? Maybe I'm just being paranoid. Is there information about this anywhere?

I really don't fancy my child sleeping in chalk dust!
Besides, if they are well enough to be as active in bed as the child in the above photo, then they have no need to be in bed - if you're sick, you're sick and you are certainly not up to playing like this
