One of our favorite elements of the Waldorf learning approach is the nature table: a special hands-on place for children to visualize and display the changing seasons. This Arctic playscape -- complete with Aurora borealis -- is a lovely way to celebrate winter. (Er, this is where we have to confess we're already thinking about winter.)
Designed for children ages three and up, this 10x10 inch playscape incorporates batik, vintage linen, and alpaca felt representing the variety of Arctic terrain -- snow, lichen, even an ice floe. Sturdily sewn, it encourages little hands to explore its cave and crevice. Just add small toy polar bears, beluga whales, harp seals and walruses for hours of imaginative play.
Custom orders for other sizes and seasons are also available.
$30 at Rumpos's Etsy shop.
I think my child would look at this as a Hoth battle playset.

I won one of these playscapes at another blog's random drawing. I chose an Under the Sea theme for my son and it is absolutely gorgeous. Even when he's not arranging his fish replicas on it, it looks lovely on his dresser.
