Roundup: Wood Walkers

Our (nearly) 10-month-old son has been contemplating walking. We've tried holding his arms and walking around the living room, but the one-foot-in-front-of-the-other concept sort of eludes him. When we put him behind a walking toy, however, we were amazed how quickly he "got it" and began to toddle along behind it. We've saved you some research and legwork if your child is also having dreams of walking with this roundup of ten wood walkers. Find links and prices after the jump.

FIRST ROW
1 Woodpecker Walker by Plan Toys ($85)
2 Walker's Wagon ($155)
3 Wonderworld Fire Engine Walker ($75)
4 Chomp and Clack by Melissa & Doug ($45)
5 Around-the-Block Wagon by Parents ($80)

SECOND ROW
6 Walker Cow by Scratch ($115)
7 Eco-Friendly Light and Sound Fire Engine Push or Ride ($110)
8 Push and Play Rabbit Walker by Boikido ($55)
9 Fill 'N Build Block Cart ($45)
10 Hopping Bunny Walker by Smart Gear ($70)

We were surprised how expensive wood walkers were (some much more than others) so be sure to shop around, check Craigslist, garage sales, etc. In the end, we bought #5, the Around-the-Block wagon for less than half price from a local parent. Also, check out our last baby walker roundup from 2007.

I think Ikea has one too, although I have no experience with it.

We bought the Brio toddler wobbler when Amazon had it at a good price (£20 less than now).

The rear wheels have an adjustable friction screw so it doesn't fly away from her . Filled it with Brio bricks too.

We have the Woodpecker Walker from Plan Toys. Very fun and makes a fun, not-annoying clacking sound. Also has a break.

Actually, we are selling it on Craig's List right now

Ikea's is great and a steal with a price under 25$—blue and natural wood with vintage styling and white wheels. We bought it for our son when he was only 10 months old, threw some block in there and he is still pushing it around at 22 months.

We love the radio flyer push wagon, although we killed our backs pushing the boy around in it. It's not especially ergonomic for adults! I like that the sides are removable so you can have high sides for hauling cargo, or low sides for smaller items or easy in and out. I sometimes borrow it to hold my tools when I'm working outside. Is that wrong?

We have 2, the IKEA blue one and a plain version of the cow one. The problem we found with the IKEA one is that it is too light, and really needs to be weighted down with something when babies are learning to walk. Cook design though.

That is why we bought a heavier one. The kids still use it for ferrying stuff around.

We have the Haba walker wagon but would have purchased the Ikea walker had I known that it existed before we bought the Haba one.
Here's the one we have:

We have and love the Raedio Flyer Walker wagon for the reasons stated here, it is weighted so it doesn't slip on our hardwood floors, and gives the needed traction to little babies learning to walk who don't have the control yet.
