Wheely Bugs: indoor riding toys

2007.02.06.wheeliebugred.jpg Their distinctive shape make them attractive to kids, but Wheelybugs are more than just fun toys for children to ride around on.

Winner of numerous awards, including Best Australian Toy in 2006, Wheelybugs are a fun way to help babies and toddlers develop crucial gross motor skills. Multidirectional castor wheels make these good for indoor play, and they support up to 200 lbs, in case you want to take one for a test spin yourself.

2007.02.06.wheeliebugothers.jpgParents adopting from China may appreciate the the ladybug motif (ladybug sightings are often thought to be good luck to the China adoption community), but if ladybugs aren't your thing, Wheely Bugs also come in 'cow' and 'bee' styles.

Wheely Bug bodies are made of heavy-duty sponge which is covered with a tough layer of polyurethane for easy cleaning. Large Wheely Bugs, for children over the age of 18 months, are $69.00, while the smaller version, for babies 9-18 months, is $59.00.

A contemporary twist on traditional wooden toys, we think that Wheely Bugs are a practical and attractive indoor toy for children.

We have one -- bought one for my daughter over 2 years ago after seeing them in Junior magazine. This is THE BEST ride-on toy we have ever come across, and our daughter LOVES it. I have already posted about these on Aparmenttherapy (best baby gift discussion). All I can say to other parents is RUN OUT AND GET 2 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (1 small and 1 large size). They are BRILLIANT! (And a really BEAUTIFUL toy -- I don't mind our wheeliemoo hanging out in the living room, although I make our daughter tidy up all her other toys).
