Challenge: Photography With Your Kids

073109-kidsphotography.jpg We've talked before about how to take great pictures of kids and reviewed a few cameras even, but with this month's travel theme coming to a close, we'd like to throw in one more outing and challenge. To take pictures with your children, not just of them. Click through for details!

The memories that parents have of events and places can be radically different than those children have. Your memories of the zoo might be your little ones feeding the baby goats, while their memories might entail train rides and flamingos.

Digital Photography School has sent out the challenge to stage photo shoot with your children and ask them where they'd like to take pictures at (within reason). They've even given us a list of 13 Things To Teach Your Children About Digital Photography and the list is sure to help little hands and younger minds, grasp some of the concepts behind taking their own photos.

You can find more about this project and other photography tips over at The Digital Photography School.

buy them a simple camera. The one things that baffles me is people buy these ultra expensive SLRs that they have no clue what potential really the camera has and they use maybe 5% of the features the camera can produce. So if grown ups can't handle that, how can a child deal with a huge unmanagable SLR. Get them a small thing and they will learn more by having less. They will learn to be creative. Necessity is the mother of all ingeniuty.

My son has low muscle tone and gets tired easily from writing and drawing. I have let him use our old point and shoot digital, and we just recently picked up a newer version with automatic focus and image stabilization. He does a great job, and we're hoping that this will be skill that will take him through school as his "art".

This is a great challenge, as we upgrade our digital cameras we pass our ones down the chain to our kids. I love playing photography games with my kids - sending them on photographic scavenger hunts.

I wrote a post a while ago on photography fun we had been having, if you are looking for some games to play then you may want to take a look:
