There's a flurry of children's book adaptations hitting the silver screen this fall: The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Where the Wild Things Are. Not that we have the ear of movie executives, but which children's book would you or your kids love to see receive the Hollywood treatment?
In a humorous article by Keith Staskiewicz, Entertainment Weekly imagines an explosive version of Goodnight Moon directed by action director Michael Bay and Heather Has Two Mommies starring Charlize Theron and Kate Winslet.
What's notable about the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Where the Wild Things Are is that they're picture books which screenwriters have expanded and added to to make a feature length film. If they're successful, this could signal that even the shortest books are up for consideration for adaptation. The Very, Very, Very, Very Hungry Caterpillar? Charlie and Lola: I, II and III? As long as it didn't star Jim Carey, we'd love to see our favorite children's picture book, Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel in theaters. Which children's book would you pay to see on the big screen?
Possum Magic by Mem Fox.

See, every time I hear of a new Hollywood take on a piece of my childhood, I fear this.
That said, I'd love to see Moss Gown done (the right way).

I can't remember the name of a book I absolutely loved as a child, the main characters were a friendly hedgehog and a cute rabbit, they used exotic looking mushrooms for tables and chairs. I'd love to see their adventures on the big screen. Does anyone recall the name of this book?

The Invention Of Hugo Cabret - this one is a no-brainer.
I second the motion on The Twenty-One Balloons. I've never been able to figure out how this hasn't already been made into a movie (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang-style is the way I envision it).
I'd say The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, but I'm afraid they'd ruin it like they did in the other Seuss movie adaptations.
